The original Paranoia is a poetry and photobook published in Portuguese, with no English translation available. It’s rare but I found a copy and translated it into English using the google translate app. The resulting translations looked pretty great on the phone screen so I screen-captured them, converted to PDF, and here is, as far as I know, the only English translation of these amazing poems.

Description

The original Paranoia is a poetry and photobook by Roberto Piva and Wesley Duke Lee published in Portuguese, with no English translation available. It’s rare but I found a copy and translated it into English using the google translate app. The resulting translations looked pretty great on the phone so I screen-captured them, converted to PDF, and here is—as far as I know—the only English translation of these amazing poems.

What’s that you say? You can’t translate poetry that way? Well, I did. And it’s fucking amazing, if you ask me. The visual layout the app created is part of the appeal. Why are there different type and background colors when the original was all black print on off-white paper? Why are some of the line boxes angled or skewed? Damned if I know.

The poetry, written by Piva, was accompanied by wonderful, gritty, black and white photographs by Lee, but I left those out because, well, it would have felt like stealing to include them unaltered.

I printed 10 copies and am keeping one for myself. The PDF version of the book is available as a free download somewhere around here…
